The UPS output is always coming from the internal inverter. The utility power is never connected to the output. The output is always isolated from the utility power.

It depends how often the battery is stressed. Under "normal circumstances" 3 to 5 years is typical. As important as a tune up on your vehicle, be sure to replace your UPS batteries as recommended by the manufacturer so your equipment and your work are protected.
